　まず、いまもって私が驚いているのが、「日産の会議」では意思決定者が会議での話し合いに参加しないということだ。

　会議が朝スタートすると、しばらくして意思決定者が会議室に現れる。会議メンバーからの質問に答える。それから「では、みなさんよろしく」と言って会議室を出ていってしまう。本格的な話し合いが始まるのはその後である。

　別の日、会議手法の開発者に“意思決定者不在”の理由を聞いてみた。いわく、意思決定者がいない方が会議メンバーは自由闊達に議論することができるし、議論の拡散を防ぐことができるからだという。さらに、意思決定者は会議の時間を別の仕事に当てられるという利点もある。

　会議メンバーたちは自由に討議する。そして課題解決のための方策案をいくつも出す。その案に対して、意思決定者が会議メンバーから連絡を受け、再びやって来て、「採用」または「不採用」を決めていく。こうして「日産の会議」で問題解決策が立てられていくのだ。
